In college I dated a high school kid

He was from my home town and was my best friend/secret love of my life for how ever long you can consider that seeing how your 18 and never seen a penis before.

After years of going back and forth with each other, we finally made the dive to officially ”date” while I “went” to college.

I use the word “went” loosely. I only went to about a month of classes before i decided that I hated actors and acting school and I would rather spend my time driving around in my shitty standard subaru chasing bands and trying to get lost in a small town.

I don’t recommend not drinking in a small college town. You get very bored very quickly.

My boyfriend was senior and was under strict rules to not be on the phone past 11 pm and by no means was he supposed to visit his crazy older actress girlfriend at her campus. So most weekends I found myself driving the 4+ hours back to Syracuse just to park my rusted car covered in band stickers a few streets away from his parents house and sneak into his basement through the window. After all this effort we would watch LOTR, practice bass riffs and talk about how Less Than Jake totally was underrated and OMG REMEMBER WARPED TOUR LAST YEAR??

We would crash in the downstairs guest bedroom with an alarm set for 5 am so he could sneak back upstairs to his own bedroom before his parents went looking for him and instead would find his slut girlfriend.

After that, I would sneak back through the window, around this back yard and through the neighbors garden back to my car. Drive around and turn back around to his parents and have dinner with the rest of his family.

“Hows college?” They would ask

Fine.

“What are you going to do when you graduate?”

I dont know.

“Oh. Well thats nice. Well, its great to see you. As always.”

You too.

Thinking back on all of this, its funny that it isn’t a movie. Its funny to think about these things and its almost like it WAS a movie. But I guess that’s the real kick in the teeth isnt it? All those cliche scenes when someone is running in the rain, running to the arms of a love almost lost. Or waiting out side someones work with roses and a puppy… as cliche as these images are, they must have happened to enough people for it to be written about.

Christ. Am I living a movie?

I hope Emma Stone plays me. I hope they get the car right.
